Why go with a purebred from a professional breeder-
There are many reasons, first of all just because a kitten looks like a Ragdoll doesn’t mean it is. Secondly Ragdolls can have major health problems just like other breeds can. Thirdly you want a breeder that knows the breed, and has great, healthy, strong lines not just the cheapest breeder they can find.
Ragdolls started with Ann Baker, and since then many breeders over the years have put much time and effort into perfecting the Ragdoll breed. A good breeder will test and weed out the bad genetics and problems. They will test their cats to make sure your not getting one with genetic disorders or unhealthy and always sick. A good breeder will have their cats tested and make sure their negative for HCM, a heart defect known to the Ragdoll breed.
Personality is another one, Ragdolls should be sweet, easy going, laid back, and a great family cat.
it’s more than looks, it’s health, personality, genetics, family history, it should be SBT registered so that you know it’s not inbred. I’ve seen a kitten before that looked like a Ragdoll but it was not a Ragdoll at all, you want to get a Ragdoll that has at least 3-4 generation pedigree-and that is SBT registered from a quality breeder.
Going with a quality breeder might be more expensive but you get what you pay for.
Tica registered is also important, Tica requires breeders to abide by certain standards, for instance no inbreeding, not over breeding, etc.
The parents have to be SBT registered and all cats pedigreed.
